RE-ADVERTISEMENT: An excellent appointment was made Spring 2017.  Unfortunately, a change in personal circumstances forced the director-designate to withdraw before taking up the post.

The trustees of Oriel Davies are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, capable and ambitious Director to take the gallery forward to the next stage of its development, building upon its past successes and reputation and ensuring a strong and vibrant future.

Oriel Davies is part of Arts Council of Wales Arts Portfolio Wales.  Under its previous Director, Amanda Farr, the gallery underwent a major capital development, and gained its current position as one of Wales’ leading contemporary art galleries.  Working with artists from Wales and internationally, and delivering innovative and imaginative programmes, the gallery has an excellent national reputation and a growing name internationally, which includes co-curation of the highly-acclaimed Wales in Venice Cymru yn Fenis 2013 exhibition ‘The Starry Messenger’ by Bedwyr Williams.

In response to the changing situation in public funding, the priority for Oriel Davies is the development of diverse, robust and sustainable income streams.  Following the successful delivery of an ambitious Feasibility Study, the gallery is now entering the design development phase of a major capital programme to extend the building, develop its potential for income generation and enhance its artistic and community offer.  In delivering a strategic programme of fundraising and development, the new Director will also lead the organisation through to the successful realisation of this project.

Oriel Davies is situated in Powys - the beautiful heart of Wales - in the centre of the historic town of Newtown.  It plays a key role in the cultural life of the town and the region, and in attracting visitors from all over Wales and beyond.

The ability to communicate effectively through the medium of Welsh is desirable, but not essential.
