oriel mwldan curatorial internship

Looking for an opportunity to gain professional experience in curating contemporary visual art in Wales?

Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan, in association with Oriel Davies, Newtown,Powys are looking for a graduate or postgraduate to help curate and manage the 2017/18 visual arts exhibitions at Oriel Mwldan.

Theatr Mwldan is working with Oriel Davies to programme the Arts Centre’s gallery, Oriel Mwldan. This will result in 8 contemporary art exhibitions at Oriel Mwldan between December 2017 and November 2018. The partnership presents an exciting opportunity for a Curatorial Intern to work with both organisations to develop professional skills and experience in curatorship. Initially a 12 month appointment, there may be potential to extend this post to 24 months, subject to funding and agreement between all parties. This position provides an excellent introduction to public gallery work and contemporary visual art programming.

The Intern will be based at Theatr Mwldan, Cardigan and will work alongside Mwldan’s staff to help plan and deliver the exhibitions. Oriel Davies and Theatr Mwldan will provide professional mentoring for the Intern. This will take place on-site at Theatr Mwldan; as distance learning via email & skype; and also as 4 days working on-site at Oriel Davies in Newtown, Powys.

The Internship will run for 2 full days (0.4 full time equvalent) a week for the 12-month period. The Intern will receive a salary of £14,249 pro rata for this period.

Applicants should have a background in any of the following: Fine Art/Contemporary Craft/Design; History of Art; Curation; Critical Writing/Literature.

Applicants will be expected to have easy access to working in Cardigan and must be prepared to travel to Newtown on occasion. The costs of travel to Newtown will be paid by the employer.
