Catherine Bertola has been helped by over 100 people to create From the Palace at Hillstreet, a newly commissioned piece of work for Beyond Pattern. Individuals have worked at home or at social sewing sessions in the Gallery. The work references the ‘Bluestocking Society’ – a group of pioneering Georgian women, who through networks of friendship, mutual support, intellectual encouragement and professional patronage, promoted education for women beyond that of needlework and domesticity.

This commission has been made possible through an Arts Council of Wales Beacon Company Award 2008-10.
