Oriel Davies Open 2018 | Preview

Saturday, 23 June 2018

Jack, Emerald Aisle, 2017

ODO18 opening 23 June, 6-8pm with awards announced 7pm.

Selectors Sacha Craddock and Jane Simpson will present the awards for overall winner and student winner. Artist Nicola Dale will perform her work 'Model for Ideology' between 6-7pm.

The People’s Choice prize will once again feature as part of the Oriel Davies Open, where the artist whose work receives the most votes will win a cash prize of £250.

The five selectors worked hard to choose what they consider to be the most original and engaging work from hundreds of entries from all over the world. Twenty-six artists and artist collectives are represented with a good proportion from those based in Wales. Together, these artists present new and recent work that reflects the diversity of contemporary practice - whether abstract or figurative, representational or imagined.

Three awards are part of the Oriel Davies Open tradition. The overall prizewinner receives a cash prize of £1000 and an invitation to have a solo show at Oriel Davies and a student prize winner receives a cash prize of £500; both of these will be announced at the opening. As mentioned there is also the popular People’s Choice award of £250 presented at the end of the show to the artist whose work receives the most votes. Please come and nominate the work you think should win!

ODO18 Selectors: Sacha Craddock, writer and curator; Jane Simpson, artist and Director Galerie Simpson; Matthew Collings, Artist, Writer, critic and broadcaster; Steffan Jones-Hughes, Director, Oriel Davies and Alex Boyd Jones Curator, Oriel Davies.
