Big Draw | Children and Family Workshops in The Kitchen

Every Saturday in October Oriel Davies invites children and their families to take part in the UK Big Draw Festival. We have scheduled the following workshops in The Kitchen, our pop-up project and event space.

*Under 8s must be accompanied by an adult

Living Lines Sculptures | Nicole Hudson

Saturday 07 October | 10.30am – 1pm | Suitable for ages* 7+ | £5 (per person) / FREE**
Twist and shape wire to create your own living lines sculpture. Bring your 3D shapes to life using Mod Rock and colourful paints.

Drawing Contraptions | Jenny Cashmore

Saturday 14 October | 10.30am – 1pm| Suitable for ages* 3+ | £5 (per person) / FREE**
Make drawing contraptions and tools out of found objects from the kitchen. Explore performative drawing using movement and your sculptural tools to create a collective drawing.

Magnified Worlds | Zoe Needle

Saturday 21 October | 10.30am – 12.30pm | Suitable for ages* 3+ | £5 (per person) / FREE**
A guided session where participants will use magnifying lenses to explore the tiny patterns and textures in everyday fruit and vegetables. The unique detail of these magnified worlds will be used as inspiration to create your own beautiful prints.

Super Power Kitchen Utensils | Zoe Needle

Saturday 28 October | 10.30am – 12.30pm | Suitable for ages* 3+ | £5 (per person) / FREE**
Get your imagination fired and create a world of super power kitchen utensils. Think wild - invisible spoons, fire breathing spatulas, flying saucepans. Led by Artist Zoe Needle, participants will use pens, paint, pastels and tracing paper to create their own super powered characters and describe the fantastical worlds they inhabit.

About The Big Draw Festival

The Big Draw Festival is for anyone who loves to draw, as well as those who think they can't! It's an opportunity to join a global community in celebration of the universal language of drawing.

From 1-31 October, every year, thousands of enjoyable and experiemntal drawing activities connect people of all ages with schools, galleries, museums, libraries, heritage sites, village halls, refugee organisations, outdoor spaces - allsorts of places - artists, scientists, designers, illustrators, inventors and each other.

Since launching in 2000, the festival has taken place in 28 countries around the world, engaged over 3 million people and even clocked up two world records.

Anyone can get involved in the festival. Some famous folk who have supported past events  include award-winning author Philip Pullman, Children's Laureate Chris Riddell, artist Tanya Raabe-Webber, illustrators Oliver Jeffers, Posy Simmonds and Sir Quentin Blake, and many more.
